Air quality alert for Huntsville metro area on Saturday
The air quality in the Huntsville-Decatur area won’t be fantastic on Saturday, and a Code Orange air quality alert has been issued for those areas for the second day in a row.
The air quality alert for Saturday will affect Madison and Morgan counties and includes the Huntsville and Decatur areas. Those same counties are also under an air quality alert today (Friday), in addition to several other areas in Alabama.
The concern is that ground-level ozone concentrations will be higher than usual, which could cause issues for children and those with respiratory conditions. The general public is not expected to be affected.
Jefferson, Shelby, Mobile and Baldwin counties are also under air quality alerts today (Friday).
The Alabama Department of Environmental Management advises to limit driving, combine errands and avoid the use of gas-powered lawn equipment on air quality alert days.
