Foley rolls past Daphne to clinch 7A, Region 1 title
Reece Tynes threw a pair of touchdown passes as Foley whipped rival Daphne 34-7 to claim the Class 7A, Region 1 title.
The Lions improved to 6-3 overall and finished 5-1 in Region 1 to claim their first region title since 2007. Daphne fell to 3-6, 3-3 with its fourth straight loss. The Trojans will miss the playoffs.
Tynes was 15-of-23 for 239 yards and his 2 TD passes. He also rushed for 32 yards on 5 carries.
Kolton Nero rushed for 124 yards and 2 TDs on 26 carries. Tyler Hamby added 39 yards and a TD on 4 carries.
Alabama junior WR commit Perry Thompson returned after leaving last week’s win over Davidson with an injury. He caught 6 passes for 95 yards. Harrison Knight had 2 receptions for 50 yards and a TD. He also had an interception on defense.
Makai Mitchell finished with 5 catches for 48 Yards and a TD.
In a pregame ceremony, Foley named the field at Ivan Jones Stadium for former coaches Lester Smith and Bud Pigott.
The Lions host Jackson-Olin in the regular-season finale next week. Daphne hosts Hillcrest-Evergreen.
