Air quality alerts for parts of Alabama on Friday
The air quality is forecast to be less than optimal for parts of Alabama on Friday.
Air quality alerts have been issued for Madison, Morgan and Jefferson counties for Friday.
The Alabama Department of Environmental Management issued an Air Quality Alert for the Huntsville and Decatur areas, and the Jefferson County Department of Health issued the Code Orange alert for Jefferson County.
The air quality alerts mean that ground-level ozone concentrations are expected to reach levels that are unhealthy for sensitive groups, according to ADEM.
Children and people with asthma are at the highest risk under these expected conditions. The general public is not expected to be affected.
Officials were also monitoring smoke levels after smoke from wildfires in Canada migrated down into the Southeast:
