Space Command general says headquarters belongs in Alabama
U.S. Space Command commanding Gen. James Dickinson told Alabama’s congressional delegation Wednesday that “the headquarters of U.S. Space Command belongs on Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Ala.,” U.S. Sen. Katie Britt, R-Ala., said late Wednesday afternoon after the delegation met with the general.
“This is no surprise, because it’s what the facts clearly support,” Britt said in a statement released after the Alabama delegation met with Dickinson. “The White House must keep politics out of this. It’s past time for them to do what’s best for our national security.”
Dickinson has served at Redstone and is familiar with the base and the Huntsville area community. He served as commander of the US Space & Missile Defense Command and Army Forces Strategic Command in 2017.
Dickinson’s statement was one of two developments in the Space Command headquarters debate. The Colorado Republican Party also sent the White House a letter asking President Biden to keep the command in Alabama “if the main driving force to keep Space Command is Colorado’s unfettered abortion laws.”
