Teen charged in 2 robberies in 2 days at Alabaster gas stations; shots fired during 1 holdup

An Alabaster teen was arrested Wednesday in connection with two robberies in two days, during one of which police say he fired shots.

Dorian Bivins, 18, is charged with two counts of attempted murder and two counts of first-degree robbery.

Chief Curtis Rigney said officers on Monday responded to Interstate Shell on a robbery call. The suspect had fled by the time police arrived, but detectives launched an investigation and identified Bivins as the suspect.

Warrants were obtained against him.

On Wednesday, while officers were preparing to go arrest Bivins on the Monday robbery charges, they received a report of a person shot at a second business – Interstate Chevron.

Once on the scene, Rigney said, officers quicky determined Bivins was also the suspect in the new case.

They learned the victim had been shot at, but not injured.

Again, Bivins fled before officers arrived.

After an extensive search, Bivins was taken into custody. He is being held in the Shelby County Jail on bonds totaling $360,000.

“I want to take this opportunity to commend all the law enforcement agencies involved for their outstanding work in this case. Their tireless efforts have resulted in the swift apprehension of the suspect and the protection of our community,’’ Rigney said. “We would also like to thank the community who worked together with law enforcement to help bring a peaceful resolution to this incident.”

The chief said the investigation is ongoing and more charges could be filed. Anyone with information is asked to call Alabaster Criminal Investigations Division at 205-664-6850 or 205-664-7401.
