Nearly 100 students from across Alabama have been honored with National Merit scholarships that provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study.

To compete, each semifinalist was asked to submit a detailed scholarship application and had to have an outstanding academic record, be endorsed and recommended by a high school official and earn qualifying SAT or ACT scores.

From the semifinalist group, over 15,000 met requirements for finalist standing and only 3,800 honorees were named nationwide in 2023.

National Merit Scholars are typically announced by the organization in three batches throughout the spring.
