Snoop Dogg to perform entire ‘Doggystyle’ album (plus more hits) at Huntsville concert

One of the biggest rap stars ever is coming to Huntsville to celebrate the 30th anniversary of his debut solo album. Snoop Dogg has set an August 15 show at Orion Amphitheater in which he’ll perform his entire 1993 LP “Doggystyle” as well as hits from throughout his diamond-blinged career.

This will be Snoop’s first-ever concert in Huntsville. Tickets are $20 to $196 and go on sale 9 a.m. June 9 via axs.com.

With his smooth flow and laidback persona, Snoop Dogg’s known for jams like “Gin and Juice,” “Doggy Dogg World,” “What’s My Name?”, “Lay Low,” “Drop It Like It’s Hot” and “Beautiful.”

Snoop Dogg, aka Calvin Broadus, is bringing other legends with him to Orion Amphitheater, too. Frequent Snoop collaborator and fellow cannabis enthusiast Wiz Khalifa (rapper of hits like “See You Again,” “Young, Wild & Free,” and “Black and Yellow”) is direct support.

Influential rapper Too $hort (known for tracks like “I’m a Player” and “Blow the Whistle”) and ‘90s hit-maker Warren G (his signature smash, “Regulate”) are also on the Orion bill. Support acts also include Berner and DJ Drama. Snoop’s calling his latest trek the “High School Reunion Tour.”

In Huntsville, Snoop will likely be energized. The Orion show falls just days after his scheduled performance as part of Hip Hop 50 Live, an Aug. 11 mega-concert at New York’s Yankee Stadium, featuring fellow rap icons Run-D.M.C., Lil Wayne, Ice Cube, Slick Rick, Kurtis Blow, Roxanne Shante, Sugar Hill Gang, Lil Kim and many more.

The lanky Long Beach, California native got his first big break in 1992 with a cameo on Dr. Dre’s debut solo single “Deep Cover.” But it was Snoop’s stoned-drawl throughout Dre’s now-classic “The Chronic” album, on smashes like “Let Me Ride” and “Nuthin’ but a ‘G’ Thang,” that made him a household name.

Over the years, Snoop Dogg widened his brand considerably. Despite his “gangsta rap” origins, in more recent times he’s buddied up with hospitality-brand mogul Martha Stewart, sold beer on TV for Corona and even launched his own brand of cereal.

Although the Orion show will be his first-ever Huntsville concert, Snoop does have prior connections to the area. Recently, one of the rapper’s beloved vintage cars was given a sleek custom makeover here. In addition to appearing in a music video by Snoop Dogg’s rap supergroup Mount Westmore, Snoop made a memorable entrance at WrestleMania this spring in the car, a 1970 Buick Skylark.

Back in 2016, a Madison County woman reportedly was the recipient of a surprise Christmas care package from Snoop Dogg via Reddit’s “Secret Santa” program. The package contained Snoop Dogg merch, a drone and “some leaves in a package.”
