Football recruiting update: College coaches making frequent stops at Saraland

Stars abound at Class 6A defending football champion Saraland.

The senior class includes 5-star Alabama commit and last season’s Mr. Football Ryan Williams, who’s the top prospect in the state and one of the top-rated players in the nation, while 3-star linebacker Jamison Curtis also has SEC offers.

Juniors include 4-star quarterback KJ Lacey, who recently committed to Texas, and 3-star running back Santae McWilliams.

One of the hotter prospects has been senior defensive lineman Antonio Coleman.

The 6-foot-2, 279-pound Coleman picked up several big-time offers over the past month, including Auburn, Arkansas and Texas A&M in the SEC along with Clemson, Oklahoma, Penn State, Notre Dame and more. Alabama and Tennessee offered the 4-star prospect earlier this year.

“He’s able to do a great job and play with quickness,” Saraland coach Jeff Kelly told AL.com in March. “When you do that as a big guy with strength and power, it’s hard to deal with. He’s a high motor guy who will just continue to improve. He’s an A, B student and a guy you can’t help but pull for because of the kind of young man he is and how he works.”

In other recruiting news:

T.R. Miller’s Myles Johnson picked up an offer from Alabama.

Playing both running back and linebacker for the Tigers, the 6-foot-2, 210-pound Johnson earlier earned offers from Tuskegee and Liberty, but attention will ramp up for the junior since Alabama offered while camping last week in Tuscaloosa.

The Crimson Tide also recently offered another hot commodity in Brookwood senior Will Sanders. The 6-4, 295-pound lineman not only received an Alabama offer, but LSU and Mississippi State joined the fray in the past few days. Other SEC offers include from Auburn, Ole Miss, Missouri and Vanderbilt along with Florida State, Georgia Tech and more.

Clemson offered a pair of 4-star junior recruits in Enterprise’s Eric Winters and Highland Home’s Jakaleb Johnson.

Winters is a 6-2, 200-pound athlete, who also has offers from Auburn, Arkansas, LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Missouri, Penn State, Oklahoma, USC, Georgia Tech, UAB, Central Florida and Troy.

A 6-3, 225-pound linebacker, Johnson has offers from Alabama, Auburn, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Tennessee, Oklahoma, USC, Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, Notre Dame, Florida State, Miami and more.

South Alabama joined the impressive list for St. Paul’s Tank Jones. The 6-4, 205-pound linebacker also has offers from Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Missouri, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Colorado, Georgia Tech, UAB and more.

Opelika quarterback and 3-star prospect Roman Gagliano recently picked up an offer from UAB, The 6-3, 207-pound senior also has offers from Middle Tennessee, Southeast Missouri and more.

Oxford junior QB Mason Mims recently picked up his first SEC offer with Mississippi State. The 6-3, 200-pound Mims also has offers from Pittsburgh, West Virginia, UAB and Troy

Tulane recently offered Parker defensive lineman Caleb Smith. A 6-5, 235-pound junior, Smith also has offers from Georgia Tech, Louisville, West Virginia, Appalachian State
