Penn slips past Samford 5-4 in Auburn Regional

Penn is one win away from its first Super Regional berth, while Samford now has plenty of work to do to accomplish the same goal.

But even in a game in which the Bulldogs were dominated for seven-plus innings, it was never actually over til it was over. Samford scored two runs in each of their final two at-bats before falling 5-4 to the Quakers in the Auburn Regional at Plainsman Park on Saturday night.

The game ended with a replay review, as pinch-runner Aaron Walton was called out after making the turn at third base following a Penn error that scored a run. The call was upheld after review, securing the Quakers’ narrow victory.

Samford (37-24) faces Southern Miss in an elimination game at 2 p.m. Sunday, while Penn (34-14) awaits the winner at 8 p.m.
