Former Pike Road RB Anthony Rogers commits to Alabama

Former Pike Road running back Anthony Rogers, a rising junior, committed to the University of Alabama on Friday afternoon.

The 5-foot-8, 185-pound standout, nicknamed “Turbo,” announced in March that he had transferred from Pike Road to IMG Academy in Florida.

He recently released a top five that also included Auburn, Florida, Georgia and Oregon. Rogers is ranked as the top 2025 running back in the nation, according to the Top 247 rankings.

Rogers helped the Patriots to the Class 5A state championship as a freshman in 2021. He rushed for 839 yards and 13 TDs that season and caught six touchdown passes while splitting time with current Ole Miss star Quinshon Judkins.

“I think the sky is the limit for him,” former Pike Road coach Patrick Browning said of Rogers at the time. “I’ve never seen a kid at his age able to do what he can do. I know in college sometimes you see a drop off from a guy’s freshman year to his sophomore year, but that won’t happen with Anthony. His work ethic won’t allow it. His mindset is you have to work hard to reach your dreams.”

As a sophomore in 2022 playing for coach Ed Rigby, Rogers rushed for 1,626 yards and 22 touchdowns on 187 carries as the Patriots moved up to Class 6A. He also had two TD receptions and returned a kickoff for a score. He was a first-team All-State selection.

Rogers, a 4-star prospect, is listed as the No. 19 junior recruit in Florida, according to the 247 composite rankings. He will return to the state of Alabama with his IMG Academy team on to play four-time reigning 7A state champ Thompson on Aug. 31.

“Turbo Rogers is an interesting take on the heels of Jahmyr Gibbs’ stop at Alabama,” said Jimmy Stein, Alabama Team Analyst for BOL. “Real similar kids at the same stage. He’s fantastic in space. He catches it well. Has excellent burst and long speed. His nickname fits. He’s a homerun hitter. Coach Saban must’ve enjoyed Gibbs. Here comes another one.”
