Alabama’s Cold War-era ‘starship’ military barracks could be yours for $1.5 million

A Cold War relic on the site of a decommissioned U.S. Army post in Alabama is on the market.

Known locally as “Starships,” the barracks and surrounding property is being offered for $1.5 million by The Luxe Group, according to The Anniston Star.

The property consists of 30 concrete buildings with three million square feet of indoor space. There are 10 barracks with 20 rooms each, two large gymnasiums, and more than 90 acres of usable flat land on the old Ft. McClellan site.

The property was sold earlier this year for back taxes. Pine Valley One, of Chicago, currently has a lien on the property.

.Julie Moss, executive director of the McClellan Development Authority, said there are a few interested parties looking at the property. The authority is a non-profit public corporation made to speed economic development of the former fort.

The barracks were refurbished back in 2005 in an effort to take in refugees from Hurricane Katrina, though the property only saw a few seeking refuge.
