Florida woman and sister scammed Mobile medical professionals out of more than $127,000

A Florida woman will join her sister in federal prison after she was sentenced to 51 months for her role in scamming Mobile medical professionals out of more than $127,000.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Rebecca Russell, 46, of Jacksonville was sentenced this week on federal charges of conspiracy, wire fraud and aggravated identity theft.

In addition to the prison term, she was ordered to pay $127,663 in restitution to the victims and will serve three years of post-release supervision.

Russell’s sister, Roseanna Taylor, 41, of Daphne, was sentenced earlier this year to six years in prison for her role. She, too, was ordered to pay restitution.

Court documents show the two sisters used identities stolen from Mobile medical professionals through Taylor’s job working for a medical professional staffing company from May 2017 to January 2019.

Through her employment, Taylor was able to obtain personal information, including means of identifying certain medical professionals. From there, Russell created fake identification documents, using her own photo with the victims’ personal information.

In addition, they paid for a background check service through which they obtained additional information on the people whose identifying information they had already stolen.

Through those fake documents, the women obtained fraudulent loans for cash and other items of value, including several vehicles: a 2019 Chevrolet Camaro and a 2021 Kia Telluride from dealerships in Daphne, a 2019 Audi purchased in Biloxi, Miss., and a 2017 Infinity Q60 bought in Slidell, La.

The Mobile Police Department and U.S. Secret Service investigated the case.
