Auburn man charged with voyeurism after secretly installing camera in someone’s bedroom, police say

An Auburn man is facing a felony charge after police say he planted a camera in someone’s bedroom without their consent.

Steven Eric Pilgrim, 33, is charged with first-degree voyeurism.

Under Alabama law, that crime is committed when, for the purpose of arousing or gratifying the sexual desire of any person, he or she knowingly photographed or filmed the intimate areas of another person, without that person’s knowledge.

Auburn police on May 30 received a complaint from the victim, who reported a camera had been placed in a private location without consent. The victim also reported that recordings were located on the device that were captured illegally without the victim’s knowledge.

Charging documents state that camera was placed in the victim’s bedroom.

Police said the crime was not random and that Pilgrim specifically targeted the victim, who was an acquaintance.

Pilgrim was transported to the Lee County Jail and held a $5,000 bond.
