ALDOT has $417 million in projects in the Huntsville metro. Hereâs where
Commuters to Huntsville may want to factor in a few more minutes on their drive into work over the next few years.
The sights of orange cones, barrels and highway construction workers will be commonplace along most major arteries into the city for years to come.
Almost $417 million worth of projects are under construction or in the planning stages, according to an Alabama Department of Transportation report given at the Huntsville Area Metropolitan Planning Organization meeting earlier this month.
The most expensive projects include the widening of U.S. 72 and Interstate 565, along with work on North Memorial Parkway and the Northern Bypass.
The widening of U.S. 72 alone is expected to cost $85 million. The project will be completed in stages from Providence Main to County Line Road. Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey announced funding for the first phase last year, but ALDOT officials told the Lede funding for the entire project has not been totally secured.
