94-year-old woman wounded by stray bullet in north Alabama, authorities say

A 94-year-old woman was injured after being shot through her window Sunday night in north Alabama, authorities said Tuesday.

Cherokee County sheriff’s deputies were called to a home Sunday night on County Road 620 in the Wild Wood Cove area on a report of an elderly woman shot, said Sheriff Jeff Shaver.

Four suspects — 44-year-old Bryon Mitchel and 39-year-old Mykysta Mitchell, both of Unionville, Indiana; and Timothy Fries, 43, and Tracie Lambert, 44, both of Summerville, South Carolina — were across the cove in a wooded area and shot into a nearby wooded area without a backstop, Shaver said.

One of the bullets went through the 94-year-old woman’s window, wounding her.

She was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, Shaver said.

The suspects were booked in the Cherokee County jail on charges of second-degree assault, the sheriff said.
