Head coach Bruce Pearl and Auburn basketball fans got good news on Memorial Day when center Johni Broome posted on Twitter his plans to return to the Plains for another season.

Broome led the team in scoring (14.2 points per game on 52.7% shooting), rebounding (8.4 ppg), and blocked shots (2.1 ppg) last season on his way to gaining Second-team All-SEC honors. He declared for April’s 2023 NBA Draft with a March 31st deadline. Broome, despite having a performance at the G League Elite Camp that earned him an invite to the

Pearl expressed his appreciation for Broome’s return in a tweet.

“Johni could have stayed in the draft and gone 2nd round, but we have Unfinished business, and he wants and will play his way into the first round next season,” Pearl Tweeted. Auburn Family is Celebrating Tonight!”

Broome started his college career at Morehead State, where he averaged 15.4 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 2.9 blocks over two seasons, and in 2021-22 was the Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Year.
