Fight between co-workers at Gardendale hotel leaves 1 dead, another jailed in Mississippi
An overnight argument between two co-workers at a Gardendale hotel left one dead and another jailed.
The deadly fight happened before 1 a.m. Monday at the Best Western in the 800 of Thompson Street.
According to police, the co-workers were from out of state and staying at the hotel when they got into a dispute. One of them pulled a gun and shot the other in the parking lot, and then fled.
The male victim was pronounced dead on the scene. Officers and detectives quickly identified the suspect.
A lookout bulletin was issued over Birmingham area police radios, however the suspect was captured by Tupelo police officers in Mississippi.
Gardendale police have not released the names of the victim or the suspect.
The victim is Gardendale’s first homicide in 2023. In all of Jefferson County, there have been 66 homicides, including the one in Gardendale.
