Birmingham firefighter sustains minor injuries while battling two house fires

A Birmingham firefighter sustained minor injuries during a house fire Monday morning.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service responded about 10:30 a.m. to a house fire in the 1700 block of 26th Avenue North, said Battalion Chief Tobias Jones.

They arrived to find two houses on fire.

The primary house was vacant at the time. A male and a female in the second house were able to escape unharmed but are displaced.

Jones said the fires were under control within 45 minutes.

A firefighter sustained a minor hand injury.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
