Auburn baseball among eight SEC schools that will host NCAA Regional
For the first time in program history, Auburn baseball is hosting a NCAA regional at Plainsman Park for consecutive years. On Sunday night the Tigers collected one of the of 16 regional hosting bids.
Auburn finds out their seed, and who will be joining them once the full bracket gets released Monday on ESPN.
The Tigers aren’t the only SEC squad who will be staying home the first weekend of the NCAA tournament. In-state rival, Alabama along with Kentucky, Florida, LSU, Arkansas, Vanderbilt, and South Carolina will also be hosting. Which means, half of the national seeds are from the SEC. The record-breaking total further elevates the league’s status as the best in all of college baseball.
Last season the Tigers won their regional and defeated Oregon State in the Corvallis super regional on the way to playing in Omaha for the College World Series.
Auburn will make its 24th postseason appearance in program history. It’ll be the fourth under head coach Butch Thompson and the Tigers are hosting a regional for the sixth time. Auburn previously hosted 1978, 1999, 2003, and 2010.
The Tigers finished the regular season with a 17-13 record in SEC play taking an eight-game winning streak into the SEC Tournament. Auburn was third in the SEC West and fifth in the league standings, marking the first time since 2002-03 the team finished top five in the conference in back-to-back seasons.
Ticket information, game times, and broadcast information for the Auburn Regional at Plainsman Park will be announced after the bracket reveal Monday at 11 am on ESPN.
