An episode of TNT’s “Inside the NBA” almost seems incomplete without Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal sparring over how many championships they did and didn’t win.

After the Boston Celtics stole game six of the Eastern Conference Finals from the Miami Heat on a miraculous buzzer-beater inside Kaseya Center Saturday night, the TNT analysts ended the show with their obligatory back-and-forth about Shaq’s four rings to Sir Charles’ zero.

The latest in the never-ending series was kicked off by the show’s recurring final segment, “EJ’s Neat-O Stat of the Night,” wherein “Inside the NBA” host Ernie Johnson shares a statistic that often sparks instant classic moments among the legendary panelists.

In honor of the Celtics’ three straight wins while facing elimination in the series against the Heat this postseason, Johnson first shared a stat showing the three NBA teams with the best all-time records when facing elimination in the playoffs.

But the instigation commenced when producers posted the records of Barkley, O’Neal and Kenny Smith when they faced elimination in their respective careers. Smith went an impressive 10-3 as a Houston Rocket, while Barkley finished 14-12 and Shaq 6-12.

“Shaq, are you serious?” Barkley said when he spotted his colleague’s record. “Hold on,” Shaq retorted. “That’s a useless stat…because I’ve got four rings.”

Johnson said, “That’s beside the point.” The 4-time champ then asked, “So what?”

TNT then aired the night’s last graphic, sharing the individual stats of the crew — Barkley with 22.7 points, 13.8 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game, and O’Neal with 25.3 points, 10.9 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. “Shaq, you only got 10 rebounds?” Barkley said.

“Yes, and four rings to show for it,” Shaq replied. The former Laker and Heat great then instructed show producer and researcher Joe Underhill (known to fans as “Underdog”), “Don’t be sending Ernie no useless stats.”

Barkley then went full troll. “Dude, you’re overrated,” he said. Shaq asked how and Charles repeated his 6-12 record while facing elimination. Barkley noted how often he had been eliminated in the playoffs, while O’Neal guesstimated how many seasons he had played. “You gonna count your last three years?” Barkley asked, referencing the twilight seasons of O’Neal’s storied career, when his productivity dwindled. The Big Aristotle held up his gigantic, diamond-studded Hall of Fame ring and instructed the crew to get a close-up of the hardware.

Longtime fans of the Emmy-winning “Inside the NBA” know exchanges like this are par for the course, with O’Neal often citing his championship resumé in basketball arguments with Barkley, who had a Hall of Fame superstar career but did not win any titles as an NBA player.
