Memorial Day weekend weather: Any chance of rain?

The forecast for Memorial Day weekend looks pretty good for the unofficial kickoff to summer.

The National Weather Service is forecasting warm temperatures and relatively low rain chances for Saturday through Monday. However, it’s too soon to completely rule out afternoon showers in some parts of the state.

And the weather at the beach will be just right, with highs in the 80s (low 80s at the coast and mid-80s farther inland) and sunny skies expected. Water temperatures will be in the 70s, and there is a low risk of rip currents through at least Saturday night, according to the weather service.

There will be a low risk of rip currents along Alabama and northwest Florida beaches through at least Saturday night.

The northern half of Alabama may have a rain shower or two to contend with over the weekend, according to the weather service. But it’s not a sure thing, and rain chances are on the low side.

Forecasters said an area of low pressure in the upper levels of the atmosphere will be situated near the state over the next few days, and there’s a small chance it could kick off a few showers during the afternoon hours over the weekend.

Friday has the best chances of seeing rain, but they will still be on the low side.

However the forecast for Memorial Day itself is mostly sunny with highs in the 70s and 80s. (A map showing rain chances on Monday is at the top of this post.)
