A Birmingham man was killed Friday night in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 65.

The wreck happened at 9:31 p.m. on I-65 northbound at the 17th Street exit ramp.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office said 49-year-old Kelvin Levelle Ellis was driving a van that crashed into the exit ramp retaining wall.

Ellis was pronounced dead on the scene at 9:50 p.m.

The cause and circumstances surrounding the wreck remain under investigation by Birmingham police.
