Alabama city 1 of 4 nationwide tapped for 20G Google Fiber test; applicants sought

An Alabama city is one of four nationwide tapped for a test for Google Fiber’s 20G internet connection.

Huntsville is joined by Austin, Raleigh-Durham and Salt Lake City in the trial run for the new service. Google is currently looking for eight more organization – businesses, non-profits, educational institutions – to help with the test.

The test is specifically designed for companies or organizations that download or upload massive datasets or does work that needs significantly more bandwidth. It is particularly targeted at research facilities, arts and entertainment organizations, content production companies and more, Google said. You can see more on the project here.
