An inmate at a central Alabama prison was killed Tuesday by another inmate, according to the state Department of Corrections.

Stephone Lvon Marshall, a 38-year-old inmate at Elmore Correctional Facility, was found by corrections officers with injuries, the department said, according to the Montgomery Advertiser.

Marshall was “the victim of an apparent inmate-on-inmate assault,” the agency said.

Marshall was taken to the prison’s health care unit for emergency treatment. Life-saving measures were taken but the inmate died of his injuries.

A suspect has been identified, the agency said.
