Lauren Boebert divorcing husband, Jayson, over ‘irreconcilable differences’

U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert is divorcing her husband, Jayson Boebert, who has shared a portion of the congresswoman’s spotlight and controversy during her time in politics.

Boebert, of Colorado, announced the impending divorce Tuesday “with a heavy weight on my heart.”

“I am grateful for our years of marriage together and for our beautiful children,” Boebert said in a statement, asking for privacy. “I’ve always been faithful in my marriage, and I believe strongly in marriage, which makes this announcement that much more difficult.”

“This is truly about irreconcilable differences,” she continued, noting that she will continue her work as a representative for her sprawling Western Slope district.

Lauren Boebert filed for divorce in late April, court records show.

Jayson and Lauren Boebert married in 2005, a few months after the birth of their first son and they founded Shooters Grill in Rifle about eight years later.

Lauren Boebert has been a staunch defender of Jayson Boebert, at times. One of the couple’s first controversies arose as she was running for her first term in Congress, which recalled a 2004 incident in Rifle’s Fireside Lanes bowling alley, during which Jayson Boebert exposed himself to two young women.

Jayson Boebert pleaded guilty to public indecency and lewd exposure, though Lauren Boebert has repeatedly said – and even wrote in her autobiography – that he only acted as though he was going to unzip his pants.

Controversy struck again during the congresswoman’s first term when news broke that Jayson Boebert made $478,000 working as a consultant for an energy firm, which she had not disclosed during her congressional campaign. Ethics and campaign finance laws require candidates and members of Congress to disclose sources of their immediate family’s income.

And last year Garfield County Sheriff’s deputies investigatedbut did not pursue further – an incident in which Jayson Boebert reportedly threatened his neighbors, who claimed he was drunk and feared that he was armed.

Lauren and Jayson Boebert are scheduled to appear in court later this month.
