Texas 12-year-old allegedly murdered Sonic Drive-In employee with AR rifle
A Sonic Drive-In employee in Texas died over the weekend after being shot during a confrontation with a 12-year-old juvenile and a 20-year-old man.
Keene Police Department officers responded to reports of a shooting at a Sonic Drive-In around 9:40 p.m. on Saturday and tended to the victim, 32-year-old Matthew Davis, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds. He was airlifted to Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth, where he was pronounced dead.
Davis was shot after confronting 20-year-old Angel Gomez, who was “being disorderly in the parking lot,” according to a news release from Keene PD. The confrontation became physical and a 12-year-old juvenile, who was a passenger in Gomez’s vehicle, pulled out a firearm and fired numerous shots that struck Davis, according to police.
The boy used an AR-style rifle in the shooting, Police Chief James Kidd told The Dallas Morning News, AP reported.
Gomez and the juvenile fled the area, according to the release, but Gomez later returned to the Sonic and was taken into police custody. Authorities continued investigating the scene and were led to the juvenile’s location in Rio Vista, about 20 minutes south of Keene, where they were taken into custody and several firearms were recovered.
Both Gomes and the juvenile have been charged with murder, officials said.
“We would like to thank all agencies that assisted with the scene and investigation,” Keene PD said in the release.
