Peacock to exclusively air NFL wild-card playoff game this upcoming season
Peacock, NBCUniversal’s streaming service, has a one-year deal with the NFL to carry a playoff game exclusively on the streaming service this coming season, it was announced Monday.
Terms of the deal weren’t announced, but people familiar with the matter told The Wall Street Journal it is “in the range of $110 million.”
The Peacock playoff game will be in prime time on Saturday, Jan. 13, which is the first NFL wild-card weekend. The afternoon wild card game that day will air on both NBC and Peacock. NBC and Peacock will also air the wild card game in prime time the next day.
The game will also air on the local NBC affiliates in the markets of the teams playing.
The move marks the first time an NFL playoff game will be shown exclusively through streaming.
“We are excited to work with a great partner in Peacock to present the first-ever exclusively live streamed NFL playoff game this upcoming season,” Hans Schroeder, NFL Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of NFL Media, said in a statement on NFL.com. “Expanding the digital distribution of NFL content while maintaining wide reach for our games continues to be a key priority for the League, and bringing the excitement of an NFL playoff game exclusively to Peacock’s streaming platform is the next step in that strategy.”
Peacock will once again stream all NBC “Sunday Night Football” games, including the playoffs, and the “Football Night in America”
Peacock is the place for NBC Universal content and has an archive of NBC comedies and dramas, live sports, Universal Studios films and new original content.
There are a few options to consider.
- Peacock TV Free: Just like the name implies, this is a free service. There are ads and you have access to a limited library or archive.
- Peacock Premium with Ads: For $4.99 a month or $50 a year, this plan gives users full access to Peacock TV content with commercial breaks
- Peacock Premium without Ads: For $9.99 a month or $100 a year. This paid plan gives users full access to Peacock TV content with no commercials
