Will today be the hottest (so far) of 2023?

Sunday has the potential to be the hottest day of 2023, so far, at least.

The National Weather Service is forecasting highs to peak in the 90s in many spots in Alabama this afternoon, with only a few spotty showers and storms to cool things off.

So far today Troy has been the hot spot, hitting 93 degrees as of 1 p.m. Sunday — with still some time left to heat up more.

Birmingham: 88 degrees

Decatur: 87 degrees

Demopolis: 88 degrees

Dothan: 90 degrees

Eufaula: 91 degrees

Evergreen: 91 degrees

Gadsden: 86 degrees

Greenville: 88 degrees

Huntsville: 88 degrees

Mobile: 90 degrees

Montgomery: 91 degrees

Muscle Shoals: 88 degrees

Prattville: 89 degrees

Sylacauga: 86 degrees

Troy: 93 degrees

Tuscaloosa: 90 degrees

These are some of the warmest readings of 2023, at least so far.

Here’s a look at the highest high temperatures of the year before today for a few Alabama cities:

Birmingham: 89 degrees on May 9 and 13

Dothan: 90 degrees on May 10

Huntsville: 90 degrees on May 9

Mobile: 89 degrees on May 10 and 13

Montgomery: 90 degrees on March 25, April 5 and May 9

Muscle Shoals: 89 degrees on April 4

Tuscaloosa: 90 degrees on May 9

More summerlike heat is in the forecast for this week. Monday could have temperatures similar to today’s, according to the forecast from the weather service:

More widespread highs in the 90s will be possible in Alabama on Monday.

Higher rain chances could help keep temperatures a degree or two cooler after Monday, according to forecasters.

The first day of meteorological summer doesn’t arrive until June 1.
