Among the five Power 5 transfers Alabama landed, all but one have appeared in game action to date. The only who has yet to see the field is Tyler Harrell, a receiver who came from Louisville over the summer.

So what’s the latest on the speedy senior? Nick Saban was asked about his status on Wednesday’s SEC media teleconference.

“Yeah, he’s been practicing and he actually was available for the last game,” Saban said. “He’s getting more and more reps, more and more comfortable with what he’s doing. And there’s the possibility he’s getting to the point where we can get to use him some.”

Saban on Aug. 24 said Harrell was dealing with a sprained foot that limited his reps but was starting to see more practice time leading up to the season opener. Harrell didn’t dress for the first few games.

“Look I’m not giving specific details on everybody’s injuries but he was out,” Saban said when asked Wednesday if the foot injury sidelined him the first seven games. “So what makes the difference?”

Harrell was listed on the travel roster for the first time at Tennessee but didn’t appear in the game. He warmed up before the Sept. 24 home date with Vanderbilt but didn’t make the trip a week later to Arkansas.

High expectations followed Harrell to Tuscaloosa after a breakout 2021 season. He pulled in 18 catches for 523 yards (29.1-yard average) with six touchdowns a year ago at Louisville. His track-star speed led to comparisons to Jameson Williams, a lightning-quick receiver who transferred from Ohio State, became the primary playmaker last year for Alabama and became a first-round pick of the Detroit Lions.
