Mother, stepfather charged with murder after baby dies from head injuries in Alabama

A Florida mother and her Alabama stepfather, who is also her boyfriend, were arrested on murder and other charges Friday in connection with the death of a 3-month-old baby in Alabama who was struck in the head, according to court records and a report.

Shelby Lynne Comalander, 24, of McDavid, Florida, and Larry William Jackson, 48, of Atmore, were charged with murder aggravated child abuse after the baby died April 9 in Escambia County from a fractured skull and bleeding in their brain, records showed.

Both are being held in the Escambia County jail without bond.

The baby endured the abuse for weeks before they died, according to the complaints filed against the pair in Escambia County Circuit Court. Neither Comalander nor Jackson tried to get medical help for the child, according to court records.

Comalander is Jackson’s stepfather, and Jackson is also Comalander’s boyfriend, according to NBC 15 in Mobile.
