Breeze Airways, the low-fare carrier expanding routes across the country, announced plans Wednesday to add two new destinations to its services out of Huntsville International Airport.

Seeking to cater to leisure travelers, Breeze will begin flights from Huntsville to Orlando and Charleston starting March 2, 2023. Those flights will be in addition to Breeze’s previous destinations out of the Rocket City to Tampa and Las Vegas.

The Orlando route fills a low-fare void created by Frontier Airlines ending operations in Huntsville earlier this year.

The flights to Orlando will be non-stop from Huntsville while the Charleston flights will travel through Orlando. Breeze said that those flying to Charleston, however, will not have to change plans in Orlando.

David Neeleman, CEO of Breeze Airways, said the airline plans to continue adding more destinations from Huntsville.

“As long as people keep coming and booking and we’re making money, we’ll keep adding routes,” Neeleman said.

The Orlando and Charleston flights will be available on Thursday and Sundays. A promotional rate offers the Orlando flight one-way starting at $49 and the Charleston flight for $69. The promotional rate is for flights booked by 11 p.m. on Oct. 24 for travel by May 16, 2023.

Neeleman said Breeze is focusing on the leisure traveler by targeting popular getaway destinations. Adding Orlando and Las Vegas is a response to feedback about destinations customers said they wanted.

“We’re not going to fly Chicago out of there,” Neeleman said. “You can go do that on a hub carrier. But  these destinations are where people like to get away and spend a weekend away or something they want to see.”
