2.2 million Peloton exercise bikes recalled: ‘Stop using immediately,’ gov says

Some 2.2 million Peloton exercise bike users are being advised to stop using the products immediately after a recall linked to problems with the seats.

The Consumer Products Safety Commission said Peloton Bikes Model PL01 are being recalled because the seat’s post assembly can break during use, creasing a risk for falls or other injuries. Recalled bikes are 4 feet long and 2 feet wide with adjustable seats, handlebars and screens that tilt up and down.

The Peloton name and the model number are displayed on the inside front fork, near the flywheel.

According to the recall, Peloton has received 35 reports of seat posts breaking and detaching while the bike is in use, including 13 reports of injuries including a broken wrist, lacerations and bruises.

The bikes were sold at Peloton and Dick’s Sporting Goods stores nationwide and online at Onepeloton.com, Amazon.com and Dicksportinggoods.com from January 2018 through May 2023 for about $1,400.

Consumer are advised to stop using the recalled exercise bikes and contact Peloton for a free repair via a new self-installed seat post.
