North Alabama man traveled to Homewood to have sex with juvenile, police say

A north Alabama man is facing child sex charges after authorities say he traveled from Madison to Homewood to meet what he thought was a juvenile for sex.

Anthony Ray Lawrence, 36, is charged with electronic solicitation of a child and traveling to meet a minor for an unlawful sex act.

Lawrence was arrested after an investigation by Homewood police and the FBI’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force, Homewood police Sgt. John Carr said Thursday.

According to charging documents against Lawrence, the alleged crimes happened on April 21. Additional details have not been made public.

Lawrence was booked into the Jefferson County Jail on May 2, and released May 4 after posting $90,000 bond.

Carr said the investigation is ongoing.
