Woman found dead in Talladega National Forest now identified

A woman found dead in the Talladega National Forest has now been identified.

Talladega police on Wednesday identified the woman as Mercedes Charlene Evans. She was 33 and lived in Stevenson.

Authorities have still not determined the cause of death.

The discovery was made about 4 p.m. Saturday, about one mile from Blue Hole waterfall, Talladega police Lt. Dennis McDaniel said Tuesday.

McDaniel said more information will be released once she is identified and her family notified.

Investigators are asking anyone that saw Evans or knows anything about the case to call investigators at 256-362-4508.
