4 charged with capital murder in ‘horrendous’ slaying of 16-year-old Montgomery boy

Four people have been charged in the weekend shooting death of a 16-year-old boy that the Montgomery police chief called a horrendous crime.

Montgomery police on Tuesday announced the arrests of Rodney Moncrief, 21, Benjamin Hamilton, 19, Marcus Jones, 18, and Liclifford Gilmer, 21. All of the suspects are from Montgomery.

They are charged with capital murder in the Sunday slaying of the teen boy. The victim’s identity has not yet been announced.

They are also charged with two counts each of attempted murder in the wounding of two other people.

Moncrief, Jones and Hamilton were taken into custody Monday. Gilmer was arrested on Tuesday.

“If crime is the life you choose, prison is the price you’ll pay,’’ said Chief Darryl Albert.

Police and fire medics were dispatched at 8:28 p.m. to a report of a person shot in the 1500 block of Hale Street.

When they arrived, they found the 16-year-old boy dead. MPD Deputy Chief John Hall said multiple shots had been fired at the teen.

Court documents say the charge is capital murder because the shots were fired from a vehicle.

All four suspects are being held without bond in the Montgomery County Detention Facility.
