Welfare check at Talladega home turns into homicide probe

A welfare check at a Talladega home has turned into a homicide investigation.

Authorities on Tuesday identified the victim as Johnathan Vann Boyd. He was 43.

Talladega police were dispatched 11:40 a.m. Friday to conduct a welfare check at 4525 Howell Cove Road, said Lt. Dennis McDaniel.

When officers entered the home, they found Boyd had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Talladega police investigators, a Talladega County District Attorney’s Office investigator, the Talladega County Drug and Violent Crime Task Force, and technicians from the JSU Center for Applied Forensics were called to the scene to investigate.

The was taken to the Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery for an autopsy.

No arrests have been announced.
