Dolly Parton’s ‘Rockstar’ album: 30 tracks, classic tunes, incredible guests

Dolly Parton is ready to rock, and on Tuesday she released some eyebrow-raising details about her forthcoming album “Rockstar.” We won’t hear the first single for a couple of days, but we do have the answers to some key questions.

Q: Is this really happening?

A: Yes indeedy. As you might recall, last year the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame included her on its list of nominees. Parton said she was going to “respectfully bow out” because she had never crossed over into rock and didn’t think she’d earned it – but the Hall of Fame inducted her anyway. She took part good naturedly in the 2022 induction ceremony, and later announced plans for an album.

She’s not going to do this halfway, is she?

Ha. Brace yourself for 30 songs, nine of which are original and the rest of which are familiar rock anthems. Some involving special guests.

When?

The lead single, “World On Fire,” comes out Thursday, May 11, the same day Parton co-hosts the 58th Academy of Country Music Awards. “This is a song I felt very inspired to write,” says Parton. “I think it speaks about everything and to everyone this day and time. I hope it is something that will touch you and maybe touch enough people to want to make a change for the better.”

The album comes out Nov. 17 as 4 LPs, two CDs or digital download.
