Alabama fugitive wanted in double homicide across 2 states captured

An Alabama fugitive wanted in the July double homicide of a couple found slain in Florida was captured by federal and local authorities Tuesday in Dothan and charged with capital murder.

Davanta Laquae Williams, 32, of Dothan, was captured by U.S. Marshals and Dothan police in the 700 block of Third Avenue, police said Tuesday.

Williams was wanted for capital murder in the slayings of Shauna Terry and her boyfriend, Damien Bell.

The couple’s remains were found July 28 by cadaver dogs in Bonifay Island, Fla., police said. They were reported missing earlier that month.

Authorities believe one victim was killed in Alabama while the other was slain in Florida.

Williams was charged with capital murder, kidnapping and abuse of a corpse in connection with the deaths. He is being held without bond, authorities said.

A second suspect, 33-year-old Dothan resident Cheral Wills, was arrested and charged with first-degree hindering prosecution for allegedly helping Williams evade authorities. Her bond was set at $15,000.

Another suspect, MacAuthur Mike Hawkins, remains at large.

Anyone with information on Hawkins’ whereabouts was asked to call the Dothan police at 334-615-3000. Anyone wishing to remain anonymous was suggested to call Crime Stoppers at 334-793-7000.
