Woman with walker caught robbing New Orleans bank once used bike for getaway, feds say

Despite restricted mobility which requires the use of a walker, a New Orleans woman robbed a bank there Friday, according to a complaint filed in U.S. District Court.

Cathy Lynn Hamilton, 63, entered the Case Bank on North Broad Street in New Orleans around 9 a.m. last Friday and, with the use of her walker, made her way to a teller.

Hamilton presented the teller with a note reading “Your bank is being robbed, put money in bag or people are going to get hurt”

Cathy Lynn Hamilton robbed a New Orleans bank, using this note to get $500 from a teller, according to a federal complaint.

The teller complied, handing over $500. Hamilton took the money and made her way out the door. But the pursuit didn’t last long. A bank security guard escorted Hamilton back into the bank and New Orleans police arrived on the scene to take her into custody.

The federal complaint notes this isn’t Hamilton’s first go-round with bank robbery.

In 2014, she was arrested for robbing another New Orleans bank, again using a note (”Put money in bag now”). In that case, the teller refused and Hamilton was caught trying to flee the scene on a bicycle, according to NOLA.com.

She pleaded guilty and served two years in federal prison. A judge ordered Hamilton be evaluated in prison for possible substance abuse and physical or mental health issues.
