Former Auburn standout Marlon Davidson returns to NFL
The San Francisco 49ers have signed defensive lineman Marlon Davidson, the NFL team announced on Monday afternoon.
The Class 5A Lineman on the Year at Greenville High School in 2015, Davidson earned first-team All-SEC recognition at Auburn in 2019.

Davidson had been out of football since Oct. 25, when the Atlanta Falcons waived him from injured reserve.
Davidson joined Atlanta as the 47th selection in the 2020 NFL Draft, but he missed more games than he played during his time with the Falcons.
Davidson played in 19 games, started one and missed 21 as injuries and COVID-19 kept him off the field. He totaled 29 tackles, with one sack, one tackle for loss and one quarterback hit for Atlanta.
Davidson also had an interception, which he returned for a touchdown. On a second-and-9 snap from the Tampa Bay 8-yard line, Davidson ran in front of Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady’s pass to running back Leonard Fournette in the backfield, and after catching the football, ran the 3 yards to the end zone on Dec. 5, 2021.
Davidson had arthroscopic knee surgery on Aug. 18 and went on injured reserve on Sept. 1. He was eligible to return to practice on Oct. 3 but had not returned to the field when he was released.
San Francisco landed Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Javon Hargrave in free agency for a four-year, $80 million contract in March. But the 49ers did not have a defensive lineman among their nine draft picks last month.
A knee injury limited Javon Kinlaw to six games and an ankle injury limited Arik Armstead to nine games at defensive tackle for San Francisco last season. That allowed Kevin Givens to start 11 games and Hassan Ridgeway to start seven games for the 49ers in 2022. All return except Ridgeway.
Terms of Davidson’s contract were not released.
