Former Alabama football player Jimmy Johns, who was kicked off the team after being arrested in 2008, returned to school this spring and will graduate this weekend.

Johns is among 10 current or former football players listed by the university as May graduates.

The Brookhaven, Mississippi native played in 36 games as a running back from 2005-07, rushing 121 times for 564 yards and two touchdowns. He converted to linebacker before the end of the 2007 season, which was Nick Saban’s first in Tuscaloosa.

But in June 2008, Johns was arrested by Tuscaloosa on six-drug related charges, including distribution of cocaine. Saban dismissed Johns from the team later that day, saying, “This type of behavior obviously will not be tolerated and he is no longer a part of our program.”

Johns served 13 months in jail after pleading guilty. Now 35, Johns told The Tuscaloosa News he received an ‘A’ in each of the three remaining classes he needed to graduate this spring. He took them online as he worked in a management role at Wal-Mart.

Also graduating this weekend is former Alabama safety Ronnie Harrison, who entered the NFL draft after three seasons at Alabama from 2015-17. A third-round NFL draft pick in 2018, Harrison played last season for the Cleveland Browns but is currently a free agent.

The other May football graduates are current players in outside linebacker Chris Braswell, offensive lineman Darrian Dalcourt (masters degree), punter James Burnip and safety Malachi Moore. Former cornerback Jahquez Robinson (transferred to Colorado) and former kicker Chase Allen (in the NCAA transfer portal) are also graduating, as are former long snapper Gabe Pugh and walk-on wide receiver Grant Krieger.

In men’s basketball, forward Noah Gurley is graduating with a masters degree after playing his fifth and sixth seasons of college basketball at Alabama. Walk-on guard Adam Cottrell, who is in the NCAA transfer portal, is graduating with both a bachelors and masters degree.
