Alabama catcher Mac Guscette said Thursday he’s been cleared to return to the field after taking a wild pitch to the neck during last Sunday’s game at LSU.

Guscette collapsed on the field and was taken to a Baton Rouge hospital, where he was “alert and doing well” according to an update by the Alabama athletic department. Guscette, a junior from Nokomis, Fla., announced via Twitter on Thursday that he was ready to return and thanked his caregivers and fans.

Guscette is batting .243 with two home runs and 10 RBIs in 14 games this season, while splitting time behind the plate with junior Dominic Tamez. Guscette transferred to Alabama this season after two years at Florida.

The news about Guscette comes on the same day Alabama fired head baseball coach Brad Bohannon amid a gambling-related investigation surrounding the program. Several state sports books stopped taking bets on Alabama baseball after “suspicious wagering activity” surfaced regarding the Crimson Tide’s series at LSU.

Alabama (30-15, 9-12 SEC) hosts conference rival Vanderbilt at 7 p.m. Thursday in a game to be televised by ESPNU.
