A state inmate died Wednesday night at William Donaldson Correctional Facility in western Jefferson County.

The inmate’s name is being withheld pending notification of his family.

Chief Jefferson County Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said the inmate was 45 years old.

He was found unresponsive in his cell about 11:30 p.m. Correctional officers made the discovery.

The inmate was pronounced dead at 11:45 p.m.

Yates said cause of death has not been determined but there were no signs of foul play or trauma.
