Alabama men’s basketball reportedly schedules international matchup with Purdue
The Crimson Tide will head up north in December.
Alabama men’s basketball has reportedly scheduled a non-conference matchup with Purdue for Dec. 9 in Toronto, Canada. Multiple outlets confirmed the news on Wednesday, the first was Adam Zagoria on Twitter.
Alabama has a few high-profile games scheduled for next season along with the start of a two-year series with Arizona that starts on Dec. 20 in Phoenix and a road date at Creighton.
Sophomore center Charles Bediako, who’s currently considering a future in the NBA, grew up in Brampton, Ontario before spending his high school years in the U.S. Purdue’s national player of the year Zach Edey is also from Toronto. Like Bediako, the 7-foot-4 center is weighing his draft consideration ahead of the May 31 deadline.
Alabama has undergone multiple foreign tours in recent seasons, including a trip to Europe last summer. In 2017, Alabama played a series of exhibition games in Canada.
Purdue was a No. 1 seed along with the Tide in the NCAA Tournament. The Boilermakers went 29-6 before becoming the second team ever to lose to a 16-seed in the first round (Farleigh Dickinson). Alabama made its second run to the Sweet 16 before losing to San Diego State.
The Crimson Tide and the Boilermakers have split the four games previously played. The last of which was a 65-56 Alabama win in San Juan, Puerto Rico on Nov. 20, 2011 behind 14 points from JaMychal Green.
