Voters have less than 1 week to register before general election

Alabamians have six days left to register to vote if they want to participate in the Nov. 8 general election.

The deadline to register is Oct. 24. State law sets the deadline at 15 days before the election.

Voters can register online on the secretary of state’s website Alabama Votes. All online registrations must be submitted by 11:59 p.m., on Oct. 24, according to the secretary of state’s office.

To register by mail or in person, voters have until Oct. 24 to postmark their voter registration applications or until the close of business on that same date to return their physical registration applications to their local board of registrars’ office.

Deadlines for absentee voting are approaching:

  • Nov. 1, last day to apply for an absentee ballot by mail through the county absentee election manager.
  • Nov. 3, last day to apply for an absentee ballot in person at the county absentee election manager’s office.
  • Nov. 7, last day to hand-deliver an absentee ballot to the county absentee election manager’s office.
  • Nov. 8, absentee ballots sent by mail must be received by noon at the county absentee election manager’s office, except for overseas voters.
