Ed Sheeran and Alanis Morissette will be at the judges’ table on the May 7 episode of “American Idol,” filling in for Katy Perry and Lionel Richie.

Richie and Perry will be in England on Sunday, performing at King Charles’ Coronation Concert on the grounds of Windsor Castle. While they’re away, judge Luke Bryan will hold down the fort on the ABC reality series, joined by guest judges Sheeran and Morissette.

“Idol” has a live broadcast planned that evening, as the top eight finalists perform for viewer votes. According to series host Ryan Seacrest, who announced the news on Monday’s episode, Perry and Richie will be checking in live from overseas.

It’s the first time Sheeran and Morissette have appeared on “Idol,” although both stars have served as mentors on “The Voice.” Morissette will mentor the “Idol” singers on May 7, and each contestant will perform one of her tunes on the episode. The finalists also will team up for duets, performing renditions of four Sheeran hits.

Sheeran and Morissette are set to perform on the program, as well.

The top eight finalists this season are Megan Danielle, Warren Peay, Haven Madison, Wé Ani, Colin Stough, Iam Tongi, Zachariah Smith and Oliver Steele. Alabama singers Hannah Nicolaisen and Johnny Knox were featured in the competition during Season 21, but were eliminated in earlier rounds.
