Authorities trying to ID man they say smuggled contraband to inmate at hospital ER

Authorities are asking for the public’s help identifying a man they say he smuggled contraband to a Dallas County jail inmate.

On Tuesday, April 25, investigators say a Dallas County Detention Facility detainee was transported to a local hospital emergency room to receive treatment for a possible medical emergency.

It was there the detainee attempted to obtain prison contraband that was left for him by an unknown suspect, according to Central Alabama Crime Stoppers.

Dallas County investigators found the contraband on the detainee and confiscated the items before inmate was returned to jail. Authorities did not identify the contraband.

Investigators say video surveillance cameras captured footage of the unknown suspect, who left the contraband in a bathroom located near the emergency room. The contraband was strategically placed by the suspect to allow the detainee the ability to obtain the contraband and bring it unlawfully back to the correction facility.

The suspect is described as Black male with a beard. He was wearing a t-shirt, and gray shorts.

He faces charges of second-degree promoting prison contraband, which is a Class C felony.

Anyone with information on the suspect’s identity and/or whereabouts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 334-215-STOP (7867) or 1-833-AL1-STOP (251-7867). Anonymous tips can also be submitted via the P3-tips app.
