Former St. Paul’s, Mississippi State lineman Lucas Taylor commits to South Alabama

South Alabama has added a transfer commitment from a former SEC football player with local ties.

Lucas Taylor, a former St. Paul’s Episcopal School standout, signed with Mississippi State in the 2022 recruiting class. He redshirted with the Bulldogs, meaning he has four seasons of eligibility remaining at South Alabama.

Taylor entered the NCAA transfer portal on April 17. He announced his commitment to South Alabama via Twitter on Monday:

Taylor (6-foot-5, 315 pounds) was rated a 3-star prospect coming out of high school. A two-time first-team all-state pick, he helped St. Paul’s to the Class 5A state championship as a junior in 2020.

Taylor is the first transfer to join the South Alabama program since the portal re-opened in mid-April. The Jaguars are expected to add “6 to 8″ total transfers in the next several days, head coach Kane Wommack said following the April 15 Red-Blue spring game.
