Big wheels often turn slower than expected or slower than we’d like. Case in point: Meridian Arts Club, tvg hospitality’s reboot of A.M. Booth’s Lumberyard, the sprawling and vibey downtown Huntsville venue which shuttered in 2021.

Meridian was initially targeted for a summer 2022 opening. Then that opening pushed to spring 2023.

Now, the project has been tabled again, likely to 2024, says Ryan Murphy, managing director with tvg and Orion Amphitheater, the $40 million city-owned Huntsville venue tvg, headquartered in Nashville, is contracted to run. Since debuting in 2022, Orion is bringing in tours by stars — like Stevie Nicks, Robert Plant, Jack White, Smashing Pumpkins and Phish — that passed over Huntsville in years past.

“We are still fully involved,” Murphy says of the Meridian Arts Club project. “The construction kind stalled out. So right now we’re reworking and looking at the next steps to kind of get that construction timeline back on track and, as we do that, pricing it out appropriately. Because I think sometimes when we’re wanting to make claims, like we’re going to open in spring of ‘23, we might be rushing into things. And that rush might cause us to be really putting construction timelines out of whack or pricing out of whack and stuff like that.”

Murphy says tvg has been working with Doug Smith, who founded the Lumberyard as well as neighboring recording studio Sound Cell, to determine the next steps to move forward with the Meridian Arts Club project. Located at 108 Cleveland Ave. N.W., on downtown’s outskirts, near Furniture Factory Bar & Grill and Rocket Republic Brewing, right off Meridian Street.
