TikTok challenge leaves teen with burns over 80% of his body
A North Carolina teen was left with burns over 80% of his body after his parents said he was severely burned while taking part in a TikTok challenge.
Mason Dark, a 16-year-old student at Heritage High School, in Wake Forest, NC, is expected to be in the burn unit for six months, WRAL reported. He was severely burned while attempting a TikTok “flamethrower” challenge where people use a lighter and a can of spray paint as a torch.
“They all heard a big boom, and then Mason came running out and (he) started taking off his shirt,” Holli Dark, the boy’s mom, told WRAL. He jumped in a river after removing his burning shirt, raising the risk of infection, the family said.
Mason underwent surgery to get skin grafts to start the healing process.
A GoFundMe account has been set up to benefit Mason and his family.
